I've been traveling alone and with friends in the Algarve inland for over 25 years, crossing old villages where time seems to be stopped, climbed mountains with breathtaken scenery and admiring this brave farmers which produce from a rocky soil all sorts of 1st quality fruits, vegetables and other special items such almonds and carobs. Their ancestrals come from the moors and also from the romans. Their way of life is full of traditions which they want to preserve as much as possible. I really admire this people for their hard life with strong family roots. Around here nothing is easy, but they enjoy every minute of their lifes everyday. My experience will make you benefit from a unforgettable journey through this magnificent region by accepting my invitation to this special day full of sensations, smells, flavors, history and even some adventure .
With my eternal companion of travel the "Amendoeira" a minivan of 9 places we started the day in the calm Loulé with a stop in the historical center to visit the biggest market of the region and the castle. Opportunity to taste the regional sweets with coffee/tea in Mrs. Ti Zefa.
Then we through rural paths lined with small gardens and fruit trees, we come to the interesting and lively village of S.Brás de Alportel where we make a stop to stretch our legs and visit the Ethnographic Museum of S.Brás, the city's ex libris, to admire objects, utensils and clothes that represent other times full of history and traditions and where artists make their creations of character handmade and always loaded with symbolism and historical heritage.
It is time to have lunch by a local typical restaurant where you can taste some of the best typical Algarve specialties, accompanied by good homemade wines and some divine desserts. Believe it will be unforgettable.
Then we go to a cork factory where you can discover all the secrets of this product so special and ecological accompanied by a specialist technician. The day could not end without a visit to the fishing village of Olhão discovering the old area with a stop near the Ria Formosa to enjoy the warm breeze that comes from the barrier islands at the same time as at "Tasca da Patricia" we taste a plate of fresh oysters, local product and well known for its delicacy and flavor plus a nice and juice special green wine which will finish this glorious day, done by me dozens of times before but always with different and unexpected nuances.

Incredible day trip! Miguel, our guide, went beyond our every expectation and made the day absolutely wonderful. He was informative, lively and had a great sense of humor. He catered our trip the interests to all of us involved. He stopped for us to take pictures any time we requested, and he took every opportunity to show us things that he thought we would be interested in. He seemed to love what he does, and it made it that much more enjoyable to take in all of the areas and information that he was giving us. We would highly recommend to anyone who would like to see the non-tourist driven areas that the Algarve region has to offer. Worth every penny. Thanks Miguel!
